Scheme is headquarters for Diriyah heritage museum
Zaha Hadid Architects has won a competition to design a cultural centre in Saudi Arabia.
The 8,780sq m scheme will create a headquarters for the local heritage museum on the outskirts of the capital Riyadh.
The scheme will be built at Diriyah, north-west of Riyadh in the Wadi Hanifah valley.
The centre features a water-filled atrium and four ‘scooped’ green oases within its façade, referencing the valley.
Called the Urban Heritage Administration Centre, the building will incorporate a permanent exhibition gallery, library, lecture hall, educational spaces as well as a scientific institution for conducting field research and documentation of the many archaeological sites dotted around the area.
