AIA says architects will be first to see benefits of planned spending blitz by president-elect Trump
The US billings index remained in positive territory towards the end of last year, recording a mark of 50.6 in November.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) said the figure was essentially unchanged from the 50.8 recorded the previous month. Any score above 50 indicates growth with figures below this indicating contraction.
AIA chief economist Kermit Baker said it was too early to say what impact the huge construction spending programme promised by incoming president Trump would have but added: “Architects will be among the first to see what new construction projects materialize and what current ones get delayed or cancelled, so the coming months should tell us a lot about the future direction of the construction market.”
The new projects inquiry index was 59.5, up from a reading of 55.4 the previous month.
