Winner of $15,000 prize to be named in November

A competition asking students to come up with ideas for airports of the future has been launched in the US.

Organised by Denver-based practice Fentress Architects, the award carries a $15,000 cash prize.

The brief says designs must focus on a pre-existing airport site chosen from the Airport Council International’s top ranked terminals, which include London Heathrow and LAX in Los Angeles.

As well as the cash prize, the winner will receive a paid internship at Fentress, which was behind Incheon International, the largest airport in South Korea. The practice said: “The challenge seeks design solutions that respond to contemporary social trends, new technological developments and pressing environmental requirements.”

The second prize will receive $3,000 and the third prize will get $2,000.

The deadline for submissions is October 1, with a shortlist announced by the middle of that month. A winner will be chosen on November 1.
