SOM has been given planning permission by the States of Jersey for three buildings on St Helier.
The 25,500 sq m residential development is an extension of the Castle Quay complex, part of the town’s waterfront that includes nearly 300 new residences, for property developer Dandara.
The second phase of work will see more than half of the site dedicated to public space and new pedestrian avenues.
More than 80% of the homes will have marina and sea views and SOM says each unit’s design has been inspired by the Nautilus shell.
Key materials include a textured stone and glass façade to reduce solar gain. Each building features a shared terrace for residents and bio-diverse green roofs.
The architect has also linked up with artist Stephen Cox to install a sculpture in the urban spaces of Castle Quay.
Construction work on the new apartments is scheduled to begin in 2012 for completion in 2015.
