RMJM today closed its Warsaw office, making four staff redundant.

The Scottish-based firm refused to comment on reports that the move was made with little or no notice given, and that staff had been asked to clear their desks within a matter of hours.

A source close to the firm, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was very abrupt - staff were handed their redundancy notices and asked to clear their desks today.

“There is a downturn in the Polish market. They have been hit by their own credit crunch, although the Polish market is relatively strong overall.”

A spokeswoman for RMJM refused to divulge details of the practice’s projects in Poland, but it is believed the firm had recently worked on a residential scheme in the north of the country.

She added: “Our small Warsaw project office recently fulfilled its obligations in Poland, and as a result we have closed the office.

“Eastern Europe continues to be a priority market for our company, with clients being serviced by teams of relevant experts based throughout RMJM Group.

“There are no plans to close any other offices.”
