This excellent article reminded of the time I was engaged to advise The Architects Co-Partnership.
I had recently produced a design guide to the home office on the design of secondary schools which included a computer program which turned a curriculum into a schedule of accommodation.
They had entered a PFI competition for a school.
They did not win.

I was horrified by the staggering cost and waste of skills and resources from all the professionals involved.

The PFI scheme was one of the nails, and a very large one, in the coffin of the profession.

Not only that but the financial burden is still hanging around the neck of the institutions that were lumbered with crippling ongoing costs.

I am still practicing at 88 in a small town in Shropshire, where my services are valued by the local community and where the world of Starchitecture is far away.
