As Novak Djokovic said, "I like to be different, different is good, if being the same was so good (conformity), then why is the world in such a mess?" So consider that statement in relationship to this article. Architects (in the span my professional life) have stopped in the main being radical, free thinkers, the grit in oyster, thinking outside the box, leading from the front, being political. In the last labour Tony Blair government, CABE was created, why, because Richard Rogers was political and a leader and made architecture and design political.Le Corbusier noted, "Architecture is Organisation. You are an organiser, not a drawing board artist". Architects, by stealth, by timidity, by stupidity and anosognosia are become subsumed into to the construction team, that will have been shaped by conformity, their increasingly marginalised role, they avoid taking responsibility, they are happy to let others LEAD.

I have had the good fortune, skill, bravely intelligence to LEAD some pretty large projects and am good at it. I realised early on in my career that every project needs to be designed from start to finish, importantly that includes designing the process. So, Gen Y architects, stop focusing on how you can manipulate the humble brick to make meaningless patterns, laser cut steel sheets as meaningless decoration on a buildings facade, and to learn to LEAD and Gen Z will have a future.
