How come in the 1930's we managed to deliver circa 300,000 homes per year without 'digitisation' or any gimmicks such as MMC?

Why is it always 'we need to do things differently' rather than we need to look at what worked before?

MMC and digitsation fall down as the supply chain aren't set up to deal with them, even the giant L&G pulled out of the market for exactly this reason.
