Sergison Bates submits Brussels Pompidou to planners

Kanal – Centre Pompidou by Sergison Bates (5)

€125m Kanal project to be created in landmark 1930s Citroën garage

Sergison Bates and its continental collaborators have submitted plans to convert a modernist Citroën garage in the centre of Brussels into an outpost of the Centre Pompidou.

The €125m project, called Kanal – Centre Pompidou, will co-locate a contemporary art museum, an architecture centre and other cultural spaces in the 35,000sq m landmark Yser building.

Sergison Bates won the competition a year ago against big names including RSHP, architect of the original Pompidou in Paris, as well as Zaha Hadid, David Chipperfield, Fosters and OMA.
