Appointment follows government reshuffle triggered by Angela Rayner resignation
Samantha Dixon has been appointed building safety minister, following the recent government reshuffle triggered by Angela Rayner’s resignation earlier this month.
Previous safety minister Alex Norris has been moved to minister of state for border security and asylum in the Home Office
A government whip, Dixon was first elected as an MP in 2022 and is currently the MP for Chester North and Neston. She was previously a leader of Cheshire West and Chester council.
As well as building safety, her brief includes fire and democracy with her responsibilities including Grenfell Inquiry responses and the tower and memorial as well as net zero and energy efficiency.
Former construction minister Sarah Jones has been appointed minister for policing and crime. Her successor has not been named.
