Kidbrooke Park one of UK’s largest council housing schemes in recent years
HTA Design has released new images of its completed council housing scheme at Kidbrooke Park in Greenwich.
Built by main contractor Durkan for the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the development provides 452 social rent homes set among landscaped green spaces, tree-lined streets and community gardens.
The now-completed second phase comprises 330 homes across eight blocks ranging in height from six to 15 storeys with the development also including a nursery and community facilities.
The design has drawn inspiration from the character of south-east London’s suburban neighbourhoods and nearby conservation areas including the villa-style housing of nearby Blackheath.
Patterned brickwork, arched entrances and exposed elements have sought to create a distinctive identity while rooting the development in local character, HTA said.
The firm’s managing partner Simon Bayliss said Kidbrooke Park was “one of the most significant social housing projects completed in recent years”.
“From the characterful brick architecture and building forms to the generous homes, landscape and community spaces, every aspect has been designed to create a neighbourhood with a strong sense of place and identity,” he said.
“He added: “We hope it serves as a benchmark for how future generations of affordable housing can be delivered across London and the UK.”
