Co-housing to be partly overseen by local Buddhist group
South Cambridgeshire district council has approved plans for a 145-home scheme in Northstowe designed by Mole Architects.
The project will combine co-housing with mixed-tenure homes across four timber-framed blocks, with 40% of homes to be classed as affordable.
It is the first large development designed for a joint venture between developer TOWN and housebuilder The Hill Group, which are working with Homes England as master developer for the second and third phases of the scheme.
The new neighbourhood’s cohousing element will be overseen by two community groups, the Buddhist-inspired Suvana Cohousing and the multigenerational Northstowe Cohousing.
Future residents have played a direct role in shaping the proposals through an extended codesign process, influencing home layouts, shared facilities and landscape design.
The housing mix includes terrace houses, maisonettes and apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms.
Construction is expected to begin this summer.
