City centre scheme steps up to 16 storeys

Plans for a 250-bed hotel next to St Columba Gaelic church in Glasgow have been given the all-clear.

Designed by Hawkins Brown, the 16-storey hotel is being built for the Vienna House brand.

The project sits on the corner of St Vincent Street and Pitt Street in the city centre.

The public entrance to the four-star hotel is contained within a two-storey volume and includes a public restaurant, bar and conference facilities.

The bulk of the building is stepped back from the street in order to respect the street views to the neighbouring category B-listed St Columba’s Church.

Work is scheduled to start on site this autumn, coronavirus permitting, with the hotel’s opening slated for 2023.
