Manhattan venue features telescoping outer shell

The Shed, Diller Scofidio & Renfro’s new arts centre in Manhattan, has opened its doors to the public.

The $475m (£364m) venue held its first event, the first of a five-night concert series on the influence of African American music, conceived and directed by film-maker Steve McQueen, last Friday.

New York practice Rockwell Group collaborated on the 18,500sq m scheme officially called the Bloomberg Building.
