Goodmayes scheme is Tesco’s largest London housing project

Tesco has submitted plans for its largest new homes scheme yet in London.

The masterplan was drawn up Brighton architect Russ Drage Architects.

Tesco teamed up with Essex housebuilder Weston Homes on the mixed-used development in Goodmayes, near Romford.

The pair amended initial plans after talks with locals. They reduced the number of homes across the development to 1,280 from 1,400, along with the height of some of the buildings. The tallest block is 23 storeys.

If approved by Redbridge council, the project will also have a new Tesco store, a three-form primary school, community hall, commercial space, cafes and nearly eight acres of landscaping.

A spokesperson for the developer said the estimated GDV (gross development value) of the scheme will “be in the in the hundreds of millions”.
