Work to clad the new Newport train station with 31 air-filled plastic cushions has begun.
Designed by a team featuring Atkins and Grimshaw, the station will be ready for passenger use in September.
Over the next few weeks, 925 sq m of the two steel structures will be covered in ETFE, which will be inflated with air to form the roof of the main concourse buildings.
The material is only 1% of the weight of glass and transmits more light. It has also been specified because its self-cleaning design means that the build up of grime can be removed by rain.
