Our profession has a key role in adapting for the consequences of the 10-century-long trend of global warming, but this does not mean we have to dumbly accept the assertions of the “greenhouse gas” proponents. Many of the same climate campaigners were frightening us with a new ice age, as the planet cooled for 30 years after the war
During the recent global boom, there was a big increase in emissions, yet global temperatures have declined since 2001 and a further drop is predicted over coming decades.
Precise satellite altimetry shows no evidence of any anthropogenic signal in sea level changes and, despite all the horror stories and propaganda, the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] has concluded that there has been no discernable increase in extreme weather events.
Science is about putting forward a hypothesis and challenging it, not about seeking a consensus.
It’s time for an open debate. Architects should take a lead.
