Make’s design for a flower-shaped eco house for Manchester United captain Gary Neville has been delayed.
Members of Bolton Council’s planning committee have insisted on visiting the site before ruling on the project, despite council officers’ support for the scheme.
The site visit will take place on June 24 and a decision on the zero-carbon proposals will be made subsequently.
Some local residents fiercely object to the plans for the 8,000 sq ft home, dug into Green Belt land in the Pennine countryside, and are threatening legal action.
The four bedroom house, which has been compared to the home of children’s TV characters the teletubbies, is designed with a kitchen at its heart with several wings – with titles like “eat”, “relax”, “entertain”, “work”, “sleep” and “play” - spanning off it like the petals of a flower. A green roof covers most of the building.
The house – the first zero carbon home in the north west - would be powered by wind turbine and underground heat pumps. If planning is granted, work is due to start on the project later this year.
