Manser lays into housing industry during awards presentation

Christian Pottgiesser architecturespossibles has won the Manser Medal 2012 for best one-off house, beating nominees including past winners Duggan Morris.

During the presentation speech, former RIBA president Michael Manser, after whom the award is named, said that he held the wider housing industry in the UK responsible for more damage to the environment than any other industry in recent times. His comments were greeted with a round of applause

“This year’s shortlist set us the greatest challenge in the 12-year history, so good and diverse was it” said Manser.

The final choice was between Ladlecombe, Gloucestershire by Found Associates — “the sort of house that makes you sigh with satisfaction the moment you walk into it,” said Manser — and the winner, Maison L, near Paris by Christian Pottgiesser’s architecturespossibles, which offers “ingenious solutions to modern family life”.
