Resi scheme, which is architect’s first high-rise in US city, due to open next year
David Chipperfield’s first residential tower in New York has topped out
Called the Bryant, the 34-storey building, which will contain apartments and a hotel, is due to open next year.
It is being built above a boutique hotel and is the final development site on Bryant Park in Manhattan.
Chipperfield said: “It is not easy to deliver good architecture under the pressures of a strong commercial market as exists in New York or London. It’s much easier to work with clients from museums or cultural institutions, but our cities are not made of only museums and libraries. We need high quality architecture in our houses, our schools and our conventional buildings.”
It will feature 57 apartments ranging from one beds through to a brace of triplex penthouses. Flats started at $2 million (£1.3 million) with the scheme, which is being developed by US property company HFZ Capital, now 40% sold.
