_Cindy Walters Wonder_Chapel at the Benedictine Monastery, Holy Trinity

The co-founder of Walters and Cohen and former Stirling Prize judge introduces the latest in our 50 Wonders series

Wonder: Chapel at the Benedictine Monastery, Holy Trinity of las Condes, Santiago de Chile

Architect: Martin Correa Prieto and Gabrile Guarda, 1963

Nominator: Cindy Walters, Walters & Cohen

At the end of a RIBA visiting board trip to Chile I went to the chapel at the Benedictine Monastery which is a few miles from downtown Santiago, on the slope of a hill called Los Piques. The site has panoramic views of the Andes mountains that run the 2,600-mile length of the country. The humble, unadorned chapel exudes a powerful sense of place and remains one of the places I have visited that has moved me most deeply.
