Birmingham venue redesign will temporarily increase capacity to 40,000

Arup has been chosen to deliver the redesign of Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Birmingham council has confirmed the firm will lead the £70m architectural transformation of the venue, which will host all the athletics events, plus the opening and closing ceremonies.

Arup beat 12 other teams to the job. They have not been named but are believed to include at least one specialist stadium architect.
