Biennale gossip: Missing person
Chipperfield no-show at photoshoot
An elaborate photoshoot of all the UK architects taking part in the Venice Architecture Biennale was arranged outside the British Pavilion on Monday afternoon. But alas, no David Chipperfield, who failed to show up much to the annoyance of Norman Foster who’d cut short his lunch specially for the occasion.
Eagle-eyed readers should keep a look out to see if he has been photoshopped into the final picture due to be published in Sunday’s Observer.
Meanwhile, PR supremo Bolton + Quinn charged with organising the photoshoot on behalf of the Observer tried in vain to make it a “closed” shoot that would prohibit any other photographer from snapping the assembled architects.
This proved rather difficult on account of the fact that the shoot was on the steps of the British Pavilion and most visitors to the biennale either have iPhones, cameras or both so pictures were soon on Twitter.
Surely this is something that a decent PR would know — especially, as in the case of Bolton + Quinn, you’ve been hired by the British Council for your social media skills?
