If the RIBA hierarchy have anything to do with it, ordinary RIBA members will never know what shenanigans go on in discussions behind closed doors in private rooms at the RIBA. But one thing's certain, the spin concocted by insiders to reassure outsiders that "everything is OK" on occasions like this does nothing of the sort. Clearly, openness and transparency is something the RIBA likes to carefully manage. If a coup has taken place, would members be informed? Would we even notice?

Thank goodness for a free inquisitive press. Otherwise I'd never know anything the RIBA's doing! As RIBA hasn't yet bothered, I look forward to BD explaining what the coming "member-focused" five-year plan is all about.

Perhaps members will eventually get an email from the RIBA explaining why an influential member of the executive has suddenly resigned; no doubt that email is on its way too.

Even though I pay the RIBA a shed load of money for a magazine and permission to use four letters of the alphabet in a certain order, Harry Rich resigning will not make an iota of difference to my life as an ordinary member of the RIBA, coup or no coup. It's the RIBA's self-imposed isolation from its oridinary members that's the issue, not individuals.
