For domestic buildings the 10% figure required to be spent on energy efficiency improvements will be detrimental to the construction industry which is already on its knees. Clients are struggling to raise funds as it is to build extensions, banks just are not lending, fewer people are building, with the UK being in recession, this is going to be a massive blow. Surely it would have been better to keep the higher subsidised rate for producing renewable energy from solar panels, so what if a few land owners make a lot of money out of it, at least it would not prevent growth in the construction industry as this proposed measure will do. Architects are fiercely under cutting each other to get the few scraps of work there is out there, to the point where there is no real profit left in jobs, this strategy needs a re-think.
