LinkedIn is immensely powerful as it enables you to see who your friends and contacts know - your second and third degree connections can lead you new jobs for your practice or vaulable information.
I have been using LinkedIn since 2005 when my business school colleagues first invited me to join - the architectural profession is just beginning to get up to speed but I am continually surprised by the number of professionals from all fields (lawyers, accountants) who have not tapped into it yet.
The trick is to connect with as many people as possible - but I always limit it to people I have actually met face-to-face. For architects the challenge is to connect with non architects. When you get above 3-400 connections, the opportunities become more interesting.
