I also remember the old lido as sophistocated, and cool! In the days when people dressed! as young adults, not old teenagers, it was buzzing. The pool was sunken a couple of levels below the promenade which surrounded it affording everyone a birdseye view of the large pool. Sounds quite strange until you have experienced the wicked relentless winds blowing off the sea making its way along the cliffs and coastline. So the sunken pool area was given total protection while the beach would have been a windswept lonely wasteland!!
