All this BIM talk is a joke, another novelty. We didn't become more 'in control' as a profession because we mastered cad, evolving from hand drawing.

The reality is that we've been pushing away too many responsibilities to external 'consultants' (fire, lighting, PM, planning, roofing etc) for the last couple of decades. We are already, by definition, specialists in most areas of building design. Chances are it will happen again with sustainable architecture.

No wonder we're becoming irrelevant, we're always painting ourselves out of the picture.
