Zap Architecture scoop Dublin City University competition
Campus to be ‘invigorated’ by new entrance
Zap Architecture has won an international competition to design the new entrance for Dublin City University.
The competition, organised by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, sought to reinvigorate the appearance and functionality of the campus.
Zap Architecture said: “The design celebrates the main entrance to DCU in the form of a bold and intriguing forest of vertical timber elements, augmenting the university’s presence in the area and positively influencing the local environment by introducing a series of intimate green spaces dedicated to the encouragement of thought and communication.”
The judges praised the winning entry as a scheme that had “fulfilled all the aspirations of the design brief, creating an exciting, memorable and timeless new main entrance for the university”.
The project is scheduled to be complete by September 2013.
