The park sits on Moscow’s oldest airport which has now been abandoned

Studio Egret West has designed Moscow’s largest new park in 80 years.

The Orbit Park will sit on Khodynka Field, Moscow’s oldest airport which closed in the 1990s.

Studio Egret West was appointed by OAO Aviapark, a subsidiary of the City of Moscow. The park will be the setting for The Orbit, a museum dedicated to Russian aviation and space.

The outer edge of the park will contain play areas, sports courts, dog walking areas and picnic sites, all bounded by a 1km ice skating track. The centre of the park will contain woodland groves and ecological planting with over 10,000 elevated lights to form constellations as seen in space. Studio Egret West is also planning a series of pavilions in the park, as well as a concealed car park.
