Development Securities to build supermarket, shops, cafes and 183 homes on former Oriental City site
Sheppard Robson has secured planning permission for a £150 million mixed-use scheme on Edgware Road in London which includes 183 homes, a supermarket, shops and cafes.

Development Securities is redeveloping the 33,000sq m site of the former Oriental City retail complex which until June 2008 housed a supermarket, food court, shops and cafes aimed at the Asian market.
399 Edgware Road will be developed in three phases. Full permission has been granted for phase one which comprises a 7,800sq m Morrisons supermarket and 5,200sq m of offices, shops, cafes, bars and car parking.

Outline planning permission has also been granted for a further two phases comprising 183 flats, car parking and a two-form primary school and nursery.
The project is around half the size of earlier proposals for the site which were originally granted planning permission in 2007 but have since been dropped because of changes in the economic climate.

Comments from the Brent design review panel led to minor revisions to the site masterplan and the creation of a new housing type which active frontage on both sides.
The project is aiming to achieve a Breeam ‘Very Good’ rating and Code for Sustainable Homes level four.
