New year's competition for 'missing link' on Thames' south bank
Public realm will connect new US embassy and London’s South Bank
In the new year architects will be invited to bid for a RIBA competition to improve a major piece of public realm on the south bank of the Thames.
Set to launch in January 2013, the competition will seek design ideas to improve the ‘missing link’ between London’s South Bank and the new US Embassy Quarter in Nine Elms.
Chris Law, public realm and development director at Vauxhall One, said he was looking for “creative design innovation”.
“We want to connect the new American embassy to London’s South Bank with new green and cultural trails, which tell the story of the area’s rich and colourful past in the architectural landscape language of the 21st century,” added Law.
The competition will launch on January 14, 2013 when the competition website www.ribacompetitions.com/vauxhallthemissinglink will go live. The closing date for Stage 1 submissions is March 12, 2013.
