The scheme is due to finish in 2016.

Hassell and Populous have partnered up to win the architectural contract for a new convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct at Darling Harbour, Sydney.

The precinct will include a convention centre with a 5000sq m open deck at the top of the building for major events.

There will also be a grand ballroom with banqueting space for up to 2,000 people and 40,000sq m of exhibition space.

Richard Breslin, project leader from Populous, said: “Sydney will have a state-of-the-art venue that will showcase the city to the world and revitalise Darling Harbour, both economically and culturally.

“The landmark Convention Centre, deliberately clad in materials which reflect its spectacular harbour outlook, will be complimented by the rest of the precinct which looks onto parkland.”

The scheme is due to finish in 2016.
