Studio Egret West have designed plans for a new showground
Northern Ireland’s environment minister Alex Attwood has granted planning permission for the Studio Egret West-designed transformation of the former Maze prison site.
The application, which will see the site turned into livestock show rings and international standard showgrounds, was made by the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society.
Attwood, who made the decision within six weeks of receiving the application, said: “This timely planning decision demonstrates my determination to make a planning system more fit to achieve its purpose and one which will enable the RUAS to relocate the Balmoral Show for May 2013.”
The Balmoral Show is Northern Ireland’s largest argicultural show and takes place over three days every year.
Previous plans for the Maze prison site included a HOK-designed sports complex.
