David Chipperfield's Cafe Royal opens
Practice worked with Donald Insall on renovation
David Chipperfield’s renovation of the Cafe Royal hotel in central London has completed.
The 10-storey building opened this week, with the hotel itself and restaurant designed by the architect, together with Donald Insall Associates, updating the original theme of timber floors, cast plaster and mirrors.
Melissa Johnston, project director, told the New York Times: “We took those elements and used them in a modern way, so it’s a much more seamless experience.”
The hotel has 159 guest rooms and suites, including six ‘historic’ suites.
