Town centre museum overlooked by mountains
Work is ready to commence on Shigeru Ban’s Aspen Art Museum in Colorado.
Ground has been broken and a contractor appointed to build the 2,800sq m museum in the town centre.
The new building will feature 1,200sq m of exhibition space, a rooftop sculpture garden with skylights that can be walked on, a woven exterior screen that will allow natural light into the museum, a grand staircase, glass elevator, classroom, shop and café.
Construction will start in the new year and is due to be completed in late 2013. The museum should open in early 2014.
The AAM will continue to operate at its current location throughout the construction of the new building.
