Colombian success for Steven Holl Architects
US practice Steven Holl Architects has revealed designs for the new Doctorate’s Building at the National University of Colombia in Bogota.
The 6,400sq m building forms part of a masterplan designed by German architect Leopold Rother in the 1930s and will rise to two-storeys.
As well as a 600-seat auditorium, it includes classrooms, offices, lab space, study rooms and a café and restaurant.
In a statement the practice said: “We envision the new Doctorate’s Building re-energising the original masterplan, shaping campus green space. While buildings of the 1970s clogged the inner green of the original masterplan, our new building aims to turn that closure inside out, re-establishing green space definitions.”
The design team was led by Steven Holl working together with senior partner Chris McVoy.
