Temporary venue in use for summer season
A team including a theatre producer and an archiectural practitioner have designed a pop-up venue for the Chichester Festival 2013.
Teresa Hoskyns and Mat Churchill’s 52m diameter tent with a 26 tonne roof loading holds 1,400 people and is being used for the summer season while Haworth Tompkin’s refurbishment of the main Chichester Festival Theatre completes.
“Our venue, which is bigger than the festival theatre, will be up from July until October,” said Hoskyns.
The temporary theatre will host two productions – Barnum and Neville’s Island – and includes air conditioning, a foyer area and open plan bars.
An accessible walkway leading from the parking area to the auditorium has also been constructed.
Last year the Chichester Theatre commissioned Assemble to design a temporary venue as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
