Work is part of the Mayor’s programme to regenerate London’s public spaces

BDP and East Architecture have completed a £2 million revamp of Ladywell Fields in Lewisham.

The project, funded by the London Development Agency as part of the Mayor’s Great Outdoors programme, includes new boardwalks and viewing platforms as well as new footpaths, cycle paths, tennis courts and an orchard.

Design for London director Mark Brearley said: “Well designed public spaces can define an entire area. The changes made to Ladywell Fields have opened up the river and created a fantastic park.

“Through their thoughtful design, the new paths, signs and innovations like viewing platforms and lighting will all enable and encourage more people to use and enjoy their great outdoors.”

Lewisham Council led the revamp, which took 18 months to complete.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson added: “The rejuvenation of Ladywell Fields means the area is now an oasis of calm for people to socialise and relax in.”

  • Erm, is it just me, or is this a ditch with some rubble in it?

  • The Fields have been turned into flood plain like Sutcliffe Park nearby. It's a lot of hype - what was it before but ' an oasis of calm'.
