Aukett Fitzroy Robinson unveils UK's greenest M&S
Shop forms part of retailer’s Plan A initiative
Architect Aukett Fitzroy Robinson is nearing completion on the UK’s largest new-build Marks & Spencer at Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port.
The shop, which is billed as a showcase for the retailer, is built to Breeam “excellent” standard and forms part of M&S’s Plan A, which aims to make it the world’s most sustainable major retailer by 2015.
Rachel Mellows, Plan A property project manager, said: “These stores are test beds to try new technologies and new ways of working. Trying things out in a real environment and evaluating them alongside staff and customers is key.”
Other green features include an 80,000-litre rainwater harvesting tank and electric vehicle charging points.
Aukett Fitzroy Robinson won an open competition to secure the project and is working with contractor Simons Group on the scheme.
