BD takes a look at the workspaces of architects

Jo McCafferty said: “The desk of a working mum. A mixture of order and chaos. You’ve caught me just before our skip / recycle day, which we have every few months, so it’s looking particularly cluttered. I must admit to tidying a little - it was even worse than this before. Lots of long days at the moment so the coffee cup is an essential. Plenty of artistic reminders from my two children too. From the window you get a glimpse of our small courtyard garden and old ivy covered wall, which provide a calm retreat from Dalston’s hectic street life.”

soon your desk will become a bookshelf and your keyboard and mouse will be on the floor..

I like this desk. It is clearly located somewhere with high land values, judging by the lack of space, and influenced by Will Allsop, in not having bookshelves, and Steven Holl, in using identically sized sketchbooks.

Damn good desk I say; good to see a bit of au naturale [that's french] in this serendipitous feature. Here here!

  • Loving the classic architect's combo of slate grey coffee cup and black rimmed glasses!

A real cube farm by all accounts. I find the 'working mum' comment a bit strange.

Munter, what is strange about the 'working mum' comment? Is it that you think mothers should stay home and look after their children? Or that working mums automatically have abnormal workspaces?

somehow looks very uncomfortable... by the way - why all architects desks are so small?... I want a huge desk big enough to spread A1 drawing on it! or I'll scream and scream and scream!!!

Gabi - I agree with Munter, how is it at all relevant/ important at all?... Is it some sort of a speacial achievement or something?...

Well said Alisa. The 'working mum' comment and gabi's comment scream feminist. Do YOU think 'mothers should stay home and look after their children'?. For the record, I have never felt the need to call myself a 'working dad'. (But then again I don't seek special treatment).

Splendid balance between order and disorder, but FRH I think it is all faux-timber veneer.
