Scheme in Westminster will include apartments

Openstudio Architects has been given the green light for its £13.5 million plan to turn Westminster Fire Station into a mixed-use development.

The practice is working with boutique developer Alchemi Group to build 17 apartments, a restaurant and a refurbished garden courtyard at the grade II listed building.

Alchemi bought the building on Basil Street last October with fire crews turning their sirens off a final time the previous summer under plans to save £29 million from the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority’s budget.

The fire station was built in 1906.
