Firm expands remit for next Olympics
Aecom has won more work on the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro including a deal to design the main Olympic park’s infrastructure and landscaping.
The firm is already masterplanning the 121ha site along with Wilkinson Eyre and local firm DG Architecture having carried out a similar deal at the 2012 games.
The additional work at the Rio site also includes design development on seven of the park venues. The firm’s head of buildings and places Jason Prior said: “This is such a high profile and complex project. We are drawing on our experience from being masterplanners of the London Olympics to take the design of the Rio venues and park even further.”
Other British practices working on the scheme include 3DReid which is carrying out work on the city’s velodrome with another local practice BLAC Architects while And Architects has teamed up with Rio-based Lopes, Santos & Ferrara Gomes for work on the handball arena.
