The six projects in the running for this year’s commercial and public access project shortlist

The panel of judges, which included BD editorial director Amanda Baillieu and BD editor Ellis Woodman, selected the final 30 shortlisted projects from a record number of entries - 348 across the 5 categories.

The six shortlisted projects for the commercial and public access project category are:

Rothschild Foundation - Windmill Hill Buckinghamshire - by Stephen Marshall Architects - main wood type: European oak

Wales Insitute for Sustainable Education (WISE) - in Machynlleth, Powys - by Pat Borer - main wood type: oak, ash, various softwood (home grown where possible)

Sandal Magna Community Primary School - In Wakefield - by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects - main wood type: KLH Cross Laminated Panels - Austrian Spruce, Landscaping Poles - Spruce and Redwood from the Baltic States, Western Red Cedar - Canada

The Olympic Velodrome - on the Startford 2012 Olympic site - by Hopkins Architects - main wood type: Façade: Western red cedar cladding - shiplap boards Bitroc panel Laminated timber framing Orientated Strand Board (OSB)

The Apex, Arc, Bury St Edmunds - in Suffolk - by Hopkins Architects - main wood type: American white oak, Siberian larch, European redwood, sacrificial stain

Brockholes Visitor Centre - in Preston, Lancashire - by Adam Khan architects with Price & Myers - main wood type: Austrian engineered timber, British timber oak shakes, Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) made from Orientated Strand Board (OSB)
