In austerity Britain, RIBA planned this year’s Stirling prize jamboree rather well.

Despite charging £250 a ticket, the institute got use of the Magna Centre for free, and even turned a profit selling cans of Red Stripe for £3 at the after party held at Park Hill.

Despite the architecturally interesting venue, this tight-fisted approach might explain why some guests sloped off to find more sophisticated drinking venues in Sheffield’s city centre.
