Work has begun on Stanton Williams’ £13 million redevelopment of the 18th century Bourne Hill building for Salisbury District Council.

The project will add 2,600sq m of office space and public facilities. To reinstate the listed building as the prominent structure, a Victorian wing and modern ancillary extensions have been removed, while a series of 12m-high vertical “fins” has been added as a contemporary take on a covered colonnade.

The finished building is expected to open in 2010.
