The future of architecture is surely in safe hands if Katie Burrell’s stand against “our ocularcentric society”, questioning “why the sense of sight has become so predominant in architectural culture”, is representative of today’s students (Class of 2013 July 26).
If I’d offered “a hybrid programme of a boutique soap and essential oil production was developed alongside an experiential purpose for the public, to seduce and manipulate the senses” to Michael Brawne at Bath 30 years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am today: thankfully happily retired.
By the way, her “scheme” appears remarkably similar to Heneghan Peng Architects’ Stirling Prize-nominated Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre.
