Brisac Gonzalez Architects has won a competition with this design for a new sports centre in Rue Pajol in Paris, close to the Gare du Nord.
The €7.5 million (£5.2 million) project will transform a brownfield site in the city centre, creating a sports centre, high school, youth hostel, cultural facilities and new business units.
The ground floor of the 3,900sq m building will be fully glazed, with sports facilities on the floor above, and a martial arts centre below ground level.
A large covered terrace will extend from the entrance hall to the building’s exterior, providing break-out space with views across the French capital.
The facade of the first floor main hall will be clad in prefabricated concrete, with sections of changing depths and finishes, and its roof will be covered in curved skylights. Construction is due to start at the end of 2008, with completion in 2010.
