Slavery monuments given new protection

Picton House in Kingston upon Thames, the home of the former slave Cesar Picton who became a successful merchant, was upgraded to grade II* from grade II.

Architecture minister Margaret Hodge has given new protection to eight monuments associated with the slave trade.
