East London scheme goes to planners next month

Pringle Brandon Drew has unveiled its esigns for a mixed-use scheme in east London including a 38-storey residential tower.

The scheme in Shoreditch will incorporate the remains of the Curtain Theatre, a Shakespearean theatre dating from 1577 which is believed to have staged the playwright’s work until 1640.

Staff from the Museum of London have already identified remains of the theatre as belonging to the Curtain.

Pringle Brandon Drew managing partner John Drew said: “The idea is that the remains will be preserved on site, with a small museum run by the Museum of London.”

At the heart of the scheme, called The Stage Shoreditch, is the 38-storey tower which will have 400 apartments. 3,500sq m of retail is also planned as well as a further 3,000sq m of office space.

The £200 million scheme for Plough Yard Developments is due to go to planners at Hackney Council next month. “It would be great if we could be on site for next year and it’ll take two or three years to complete,” added Drew.

Drew teamed up with Pringle Brandon to form the new company in August 2010 after spending the previous five years heading up Rafael Vinoly’s London office. The Shoreditch scheme is its largest to date.
